Sewing Basics

Ready to do more than sew a straight line? Sewing Basics is designed for beginners who own a sewing machine and want to build their skills and confidence through fun, hands-on projects. Each class features a different project while introducing practical sewing techniques you can use again and again.

Participants must bring their own sewing machine and basic sewing supplies. Additional project kit fees apply and are listed with each individual class.


1) Oven Mitt & Pot Holder

Create your own handmade potholders while building confidence with your sewing machine.  This beginner friendly class is designed for those who have basic sewing knowledge and are ready to practice their skills while completing a fun, useful project.

Additional Kit Fee: $12 due to the instructor day of class.

This kit fee covers the materials provided by the instructor for this project, including fabric, batting, and Insul-Bright.

2) Chutes and Ladder Table Runner

Create a beautiful 18″ x 46″ scrappy table runner while continuing to build your sewing skills! In this beginner-friendly class, participants will learn how to piece fabrics together to create a finished table runner that’s perfect for adding a handmade touch to your home or giving as a gift.

3) Christmas Pillow

Participants will choose from a variety of Santa panels and coordinating border fabrics, then learn how to piece them together to create a finished 20-inch square pillow cover. This beginner-friendly project is a fun way to practice your sewing skills while creating something special for the holidays.

The kit includes the fabric and materials needed to complete the 20-inch pillow cover.

4) English Paper Piecing Ornaments

Learn the traditional technique of English Paper Piecing while creating three handmade Christmas ornaments! In this beginner-friendly class, participants will learn the basics of English Paper Piecing and use the technique to create ornaments: a wreath, star, and Christmas tree ornament to take home.

The kit includes the materials needed to complete all three ornaments.

No sewing machine is needed for this class.
