Youth Fitness

$25 monthly for members/$50 monthly for non-members

This 1 hr class is offered at 4:15 pm on Tue/Thurs at the South Facility. The class is designed for children ages 8 and up who seek a healthy lifestyle through physical activity. The class is divided into two parts; Exercise and Recreation.

In the first 30 minutes the children are actively engaged in some type of physical exercise—running, jogging, push-ups, sit-ups, free weight routine with small hand weights, cardiovascular equipment, etc. During the last 30 minutes the children participate in a variety of recreational games—freeze tag, basketball, kickball, dodge ball, speed and agility games, etc.

Homeschool PE

$30 for 10 sessions/$50 for 20 sessions

This 1 hour class is offered on Monday and Wednesday at 1pm at the South Facility. Home school curriculum is designed to provide adolescence with the knowledge, resources, and skills to enjoy a physically active lifestyle. The class will learn fundamentals of an appropriate fitness routine based on age, skill, and ability.

Participants over the age of 10 will have the option of the advanced fitness routine using the cardio fitness center equipment. The class will also take part in games as simple as tag, or as complex as team sports. FUN is ALWAYS the main objective. This class will not meet in the summer.

Sport Specific Training

$180 for 18 sessions—classes begin on demand

We must have at least 3 athletes to hold a class. Dates and times are arranged with the athletes and the trainer.

This class begins on demand. The purpose of sport specific training is to improve an athlete’s skills, and reduce the risk of injury during competition.Training consists of a continuum of exercises that teach athletes how to handle their own body weight in all planes of movement, thus, greatly reducing their risk for injury.

The objective is to develop the proficiency level of the participant’s athletic skills by focusing on the improvement of the individual aspects of Agility, Balance and Stability, Coordination, Flexibility, Power, and Speed.

Summer Kid Fitness

$25 per child/$40 per family

This class is designed for children ages 5 and up. This class will be offered weekdays from June 2, 2008 through August 15, 2008 and will meet at the Joplin Family Y South Facility from 9am -11am.

The objective of the class is to provide an opportunity for summer physical activity. The children participate in organized games in the gymnasium using special equipment such as, a parachute, hurdles, hula hoops, fitness balls, jump ropes and much more.

Dance Class

$12 for members/$24 for non-members

The class will learn several forms of dance as well as rhythm, beats, how to count music, stretching technique and muscle names, strengthening exercises, high kicks, turns and jumps, improvisation, choreography, etc.

Downtown Facility

School's Out/Fitness is In

$1 per child per class/$2 per family per class

This class is offered at the South facility on certain dates when school is out for a holiday or special event.

The objective of the class is to provide an opportunity for physical activity on days that school is out for a holiday or teachers’ meeting. The children participate in organized games in the gymnasium using special equipment such as, a parachute, hurdles, hula hoops, fitness balls, jump ropes and much more.

Youth Health Enhancement

$8 per month for members and non-members

This one hour class is designed for girls and boys ages 8 and up and focuses on teaching the principles of living an active and health-conscious lifestyle to achieve and maintain positive health.

This class is more in-depth than regular youth fitness. It focuses more on lifestyle assessment and modification to encourage positive healthy patterns that may transfer into adulthood. Many of the children involved are physician referred but the class is not limited to physician referrals. This class meets at the Joplin family Y South Facility on Saturdays at 10:30am.
