2011 Themes

Great Outdoors (June 6th-10th)
During this week campers will feel like true outdoorsmen! With trips to the local Audubon for a
hands-on conservation program and a trip to Walter Woods for fishing and a hike through the
onsite trail, each child will understand how they are affected and how they affect the world around
them!

Around the World (June 13th-7th)
This week will be full of cultural diversity brought to the table by missionary guest speakers. From
learning phrases in other languages, to trying new, ethnic foods, children will have the opportunity
to experience new cultures from around the world – in only 5 days!

Mad Science (June 27th-July 1st)
Your child’s curiosity will come alive during this week of thrilling science experiments and a live,
dynamic science presentation! “IT’S ALIVE!”

American Heroes (July 5th-8th)
The Y wants YOU – to help us thank our troops by bringing items in for care packages! Campers will
meet guest speakers from several branches of the United States Military and learn more about our
country’s heritage.

Helping Hands (July 11th-15th )
Campers will get to experience the power and importance of social responsibility first hand by
partnering with local organizations to help others in our community. Who knew serving others
could be so fun?!

Fitness Frenzy (July 18th-22nd)
Get worked up! Campers will experience fitness frenzy as they go through age appropriate circuit
training developed just for them! Each group will also learn about healthy living and make easy,
delicious and nutritious snacks they can also enjoy at home!

Safari Explorers (July 25th-July 29th)
Become a safari guide during this week of animal observation! We will turn the Dickerson Park Zoo
into our safari frontier as we strive to discover new species and learn interesting facts.

Splish, Splash (August 1st-5th)
Dive into a refreshing week of water play! Campers will venture to the Pittsburg Water Park for a
drenched day of fun!

Blast From the Past (August 8th-12th)
Travel back in time as we learn what life was like in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s! Students will get a taste
of years gone by with dress-up days, music, and a glimpse of what kids’ lives were like in other
decades.

YMCA Idol Talent (August 15th & 16th)
What better place to a showcase a special talent than the Y talent show? Campers will be given
the opportunity to comfortably display their gifts and talents with an enthusiastic and appreciative
audience.
Enrollment
To register, pick up a Day Camp Enrollment Pack at either Joplin Family Y location! When you enroll, you will be given
two registration options for the summer - a daily plan and a weekly plan. If you choose the daily plan, you may pay the
daily rate for any days your child attends Day Camp, and you do not need to give notice of the days they plan to attend.
If you choose the weekly plan, you will be asked to select the weeks your child will not be attending Day Camp when you
enroll. You may switch from the daily plan to the weekly plan with at least one week notice.
Scholarships are available based on household income. Please fully complete a scholarship application to apply.

If you choose to get set up a weekly bank draft as your method of payment, the $25.00 enrollment fee will be waived.
Weekly Plan

$90/week for Joplin Family YMCA members in kindergarten - grade 5

$120/week for non-members in kindergarten - grade 5

$55/week for members in grades 6 - 8

$75/week for non-members in grades 6 - 8
*A 3 month youth membership may be purchased for $27.00 for your child to receive the member weekly rate.
*Scholarships are available based on income, as well as additional scholarships for tornado survivors.
