The Joplin Family YMCA is leading a coordinated effort, in partnership with the United Way of Southwest Missouri and Southeast Kansas and the local chapter of the American Red Cross, to provide childcare for families directly affected by Joplin's May 22 tornado. In addition, individuals are welcome to take showers at both Y facilities at no charge. Showers will be offered as long as needed.
The free childcare service is available for children ages 5-14 thorugh the Y's Summer Adventure Day Camp program, and assistance is available for children ages 0 to 5 through collaboration with several area day cares.
In addition to funding being provided through the United Way and the Red Cross, the Y is accepting contributions to help operate this program. Donations should be made to the Joplin Family YMCA, with a notation that funds are to to be earmarked for the "Joplin Childcare Relief."
