We moved to Joplin in August, 2015, from a small southeast Kansas community. My initial blood work from my new doctor in Joplin showed a high LDL level, and I was determined to lower my cholesterol without medicine and lose weight in the process.
I was out of shape and overweight, and I was disappointed in myself. I made the decision to join the Y and get back in shape.
The only problem was that getting in shape is hard. Changing eating habits is hard. And doing both at the same time is challenging.
Joining the Y’s group exercise classes has been a blessing in that they have kept me motivated to continue getting stronger and healthier. While I still have work to do, I have lost 10 pounds so far and taken 15 points off my LDL cholesterol. The struggle is real, but it’s worth it!
The Y’s expertise has helped become a stronger and healthier person, both physically and mentally. It’s so much fun, and I actually look forward to going to the gym every day!
