(Written by Clara's mom, Katie Robyn)
Clara is not as coordinated as other kids. This has led to numerous frustrating experiences for her when trying various sports and dance opportunities.
We first heard about Fit Kid Army through friends and started mainly as a way for her to see her buddies.
Since then, it has been a safe place for Clara to get exercise and play rigorous games while gaining more confidence in her physical abilities.
Early on, Clara would start cutting up and goofing off when she couldn’t accomplish what the other kids could do. But her coaches have positively but firmly directed Clara to keep trying her hardest.
Now she puts all her effort into the games and exercises because her coaches have encouraged her all these years and she has seen how hard work can accomplish positive results…winning!
Last year we signed up for the Chilly 5K on somewhat of a whim but because of the coaches at the Y, Coach Joe and running coach Karen King, we saw Clara dedicate herself to achieving this goal through consistent training.
This was something we had never seen Clara do, setting her mind to something and work toward it.
While we joined the Fit Kid Army class to see our friends, it turns out the class has done more for our daughter than we could have imagined.
We so appreciate all Clara’s coaches: Coach Kip, Coach Jameson, Karen King and especially Coach Joe for coming alongside us as her parents to help Clara begin to have a love for being active and for her to understand the importance of being fit.
