After I had my daughter, I was overweight, and for some reason, instead of losing weight, I was slowly gaining it.
I felt disgusting in my own skin. I had joined the Y off and on but didn't really commit to going and actually trying to get a routine down.
This past year I weighed in at my heaviest. I was upset with myself. I was always tired. I never wanted to do activities with my kids because it was so difficult and it made me that much more exhausted. That triggered the want to change.
I wanted to be able to play with my kids and really enjoy our time together. So, I when I saw the Y's ad for the Weight Loss Challenge, I signed up with one of my good friends. That has been one of the best decisions I have ever made!
I made some amazing friends and got my health going in the right direction. After the Weight Loss Challenge ended I signed up for the Anyone Can Run class, also offered at the Y.
A couple friends from the Weight Loss Challenge class also signed up with me, so I wasn't alone, but I was still very nervous. The thought of running any amount of time just sounded like torture, but I paid for the class, so I was going to finish it.
Again, one of the greatest decisions I have made. My first 5k was the Joplin Memorial Run. Since then I have ran in five more 5k's and will be completing my 6th one in about a week. It is a challenge but very rewarding, and I love it!
I started out weighing 226lbs and so far I am down 37lbs. I'm not done yet. Just getting started!
